BE KIND
OK friends.
There have been some major developments in our country in the last couple of days. So today I just want to remind you…
BE KIND.
I know we hear that a lot, and maybe we’ve become immune to the truth of what it means. We say it, but forget what that entails. Being kind sometimes means keeping your opinion to yourself or resisting the urge to post when your emotions are high. It could mean walking away from an argument or even being more concerned about someone else and their thoughts and feelings over your own.
It’s important to remember that everyone is coming from a different place, and we don’t always know exactly what that place is, regardless of what it looks like. I believe it is possible to love people where they are, even if that is a very different place from where we happen to be.
This current season will be over at some point, and wouldn’t you hate to look back when things have calmed down to see the fallout that could have been avoided if you had just chosen to be kind over being right?
My hope is, with so much going on, we could focus on our innate desire for community and living together in peace. It is possible if we choose it. It’s not our responsibility to put anyone in their “place.” Allow God to handle that. Imagine the relief many of us would feel if we would get out of God’s way and let Him do His job. Then we could focus on the things He actually created each of us to do.
Romans 12:18-21 says, “Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord. Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.”
