True Colors

Many people have been talking about how this political season, along with the pandemic has revealed people’s true colors. Friendships have been lost, families estranged, many relationships broken. There has been a great deal of heartbreak.

Though I have been shocked by the truth of these various colors, I also realize, life is iridescent. It reveals colors that seem to change when seen from different angles. Though we are seeing colors from people we never thought we would, we also have to remember, like us, they have the potential to change. What may look like a character flaw could be an issue of a different color we cannot understand until perspectives shift a bit, allowing us to see something we couldn’t before, offering a place of understanding.

Consider a bubble.

When you see it in a certain light, you can find various colors. It is iridescent. The circumstances around the bubble will determine what colors you can find in it. The wind, or even one’s breath can send it soaring to new heights as it tosses and rolls over various currents of air. As it floats, it reflects the world it is moving through. Sometimes it lands in one spot, and we see it in a completely different way. It is also quite inevitable, at some point that bubble will burst, transforming into a different version of its former self.

If you give it enough time, the same may happen to us or people we know. Circumstances or environment may color their opinions, but don’t you know the power and love of the Holy Spirit can “destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God.” (2 Corinthians 10:5), bursting their bubble, and changing everything they thought they knew. That’s why we pray for each other. That’s why we pray our Creator will help find what is hidden inside of us, bringing it to light, and making a change for the better.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Don’t give up on people. Pray for them and give them time to change.

Do the same for yourself.
