Nothing New Under The Sun

"This world is just getting worse and worse!" "Things have never been this bad!" "It must be the end times!"

The freak out is real. People are losing their minds over all that is going on in the world right now, but can I remind you of something? “History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new. We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.” ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭1:9-11‬ ‭ I know fear has taken hold, but find comfort in knowing God has seen it all before. I mean… we aren’t a special brand of bad. Sin brings consequences, as I think we continue to see by the discord in our country, but check out Deuteronomy 31. God knew exactly how the Israelites were going to fail, yet He still allowed them to enter the promised land. He did not withhold their blessings, but He also did not spare them from the repercussions of their rebellion. The good news for us, like the Israelites, is that God desires to do good things for us. He loves us beyond anything we can imagine and gives us many opportunities to get it right. Those who have children can identify. When our children are young and do wrong, we don’t disown them, and withhold all good things for the rest of their lives. We lovingly (hopefully) discipline them, correcting the action over and over until they get it right. We know they aren’t perfect, but we love to see them happy. We love to give them gifts. We love to love them. “So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” Matthew 7:11 There is no need to live in fear of His “wrath.” Our Creator desires for us to reciprocate His love by doing right, by loving each other, and striving to be more like His son Jesus.

But the reality is, since tomorrow is not promised, we don’t know how long we have to get it right, so why not start today, with the goal of living with Him forever.
